Kristin Jacob and Blue Star Farms is thrilled to team up with Matt Keil to create a truly memorable and unique learning experience for our Hunter/Jumper horses and riders. This advanced educational camp places emphasis on safely riding outside the arena on varied terrane and over natural obstacles including water, low stress stock handling both in the arena/pen and pasture, and various horsemanship exercises to build communication and partnership between horse and rider. The camp will culminate in a branding where riders will put to use their horsemanship and stockmanship skills learned during the earlier days of the camp. Additionally, Kristin and Matt will explain how each exercise directly relates to the training and riding of the show jumper and with emphasis placed on how to get the horse mentally with the job, whether jumping, working with cattle, or riding outside the arena.
Requirements: This is an advanced educational opportunity where horses and riders will be exposed to new exercises, experiences, and terrain. Riders MUST be confident riding out of the arena at the walk, trot, canter, and gallop both in a group and alone. Riders and horses must be fit enough to ride for 6+ hours a day over multiple days. Our riding will take place in mountainous terrain where weather can change quickly. Riders must be prepared and comfortable to ride in wind and rain. Matt is incredibly generous to welcome us to his family’s ranch and way of life. Respect must be given to the livestock, work, and traditions (castration, de-horning, ear notching, etc.). Team work and a positive attitude are essential.
Accommodations: We will have access to the ranch house with beds/bedding provided, bathrooms with showers, a full kitchen and refrigerator, and common area/living room. Horses may stay in either a large box stall in the barn or group paddock with shelter.
Location: The camp will be held at Shirley Keil’s (Matt’s mom’s ranch) on highway 34 just east of Morton Pass between Laramie and Wheatland, WY. It is about 45 min to town either direction. Kristin will provide hauling from PVF to the ranch.
Camp Cost: Each camp is limited to six participants. The cost per participant is $525. The cost for accommodations is $200 for you and your horse for the four days of camp. Hay and shavings will be available for purchase. A non-refundable deposit of $250 is due at time of registration.
Registration: Please fill out the registration form below. The sign ups will be first come, first served and sign ups will not be considered complete until the registration form AND deposit of $250 have been received.
